The next day everyone met early and there were two major reasons for the same. The first was what Michael had told them via a call. He had a theory and that was one which made perfect sense and made matters even more complicated. The second one was that no one could be patient now, with the robbery date so close.
Michael believed that there was no thief who would go to a party when his name was on the guest list and the simplest way to gain access to the premises, without being treated as a guest, was to arrive as a part of the staff. The party was being organized in celebration of the recent acquisition that Harold’s company had made. They had taken over a competitor’s company and all the business partners had been invited to enjoy the evening with the Williamsons in celebration of the same. As per Jefferson’s instructions, everything had to be as normal as possible and thus they could not cancel the party without alerting the thieves, but if they went along with the party then they reduced the chances of ever catching the robbers.
Sam voiced the same when he said, “There is no other option, we have to call off the party.”
“Or we can change the venue,” suggested Olivia.
Jefferson shook his head. “We cannot do anything of that sort. They acted in overconfidence when they told us their next target, but they aren’t stupid, they won’t even attempt to pull off the heist if they sense something is off.”
“So, what do we do? Just interrogate each and every staff member before we let them in?” asked Brandon.
“No,” replied Jefferson “We issue each member of the staff with a GPS tracker, nothing too fancy, just basic live time location tracking.”
“And how would that help us?” asked Michael.
Jefferson was about to reply when Sam said, “We can encode them similar to a tracking anklet, if anyone ventures near the area where the safe is located, we’ll get an alert, and we will be there.”
Everyone thought that the idea was the best one they had at the moment, and thus the arrangements were made for the staff to wear GPS tracking devices at all times.
The next thirty-six hours were one of the most hectic. They worked tirelessly to arrange the security of the place and that too, in a manner that concealed their true purpose. This was done by putting up the surveillance devices at the same time when the property was being decorated. Resting was a luxury that no one could afford and soon the trap was laid. There were cameras at every entrance and there were security guards at every corner, the GPS trackers had been arranged and were kept in boxes in the corner of the storeroom of the property.
In the afternoon, Jefferson was standing near the coffee machine in the bureau when Michael came into his field of vision. He came over to where Jefferson was standing, took a cup and filled it with black coffee.
Michael looked at Jefferson and said, “Tonight is the night.”
“Yep, tonight is the night we catch them.”
